The Ledger Nano S and Ledger Nano X are very popular and safest wallets for securing bitcoins.
When I first ordered the Ledger Nano S last year, I thought it was only used for storing bitcoins. Later, I realized that it supported many other cryptocurrencies as well. And ever since then, knowing that has opened up numerous opportunities for me because it cleared my doubt on how to keep all of them secure.
If you are planning to order a hardware wallet (which I highly recommend), then you should definitely consider what cryptocurrencies that particular wallet supports.
I understand that initially, you may only want to use it to store Bitcoin, but as you start to understand the cryptocurrency world better, you’ll probably want to store other coins too.
For example, Ethereum and BNB are two cryptocurrencies that are super worthwhile investments, and I recommend them to all CoinSutra readers.
Since I got my Ledger wallet, I have invested in many cryptocurrencies, thanks in large part to the robust security of my Ledger device.
And because the world of cryptocurrencies is evolving so quickly, the people behind the Ledger wallet keep adding support for more cryptos. While this alone is not a reason to invest in these supported cryptos, it does give us the incentive to do some more research and figure out why they may or may not be good investments for us.
So without further delay, here is the full list of cryptocurrencies supported by the Ledger Nano S.
Page Contents
The Ledger Hardware Wallet’s Supported Cryptocurrencies
- Bitcoin (BTC): This should go without saying. The Ledger was first designed for holding Bitcoin.
- Bitcoin Cash (BCC): The Ledger was the first hardware wallet that made it easy for Bitcoin holders to get free Bitcoin Cash. Now, you can use their BCH wallet to store Bitcoin Cash.
- Ethereum (ETH): The Ledger supports Ethereum. Ethereum is a solid investment, and it should be a part of your cryptocurrency portfolio.
- Ethereum Classic (ETC): The Ledger also supports Ethereum Classic (ETC). This is a forked version of ETH and you can read more about it here.
- BNB Token: Ledger supports BNB token and all the supported coins on BNB chain.
- Litecoin (LTC): LTC is popularly known as the “silver of cryptocurrencies”. I’m not too bullish on LTC, but having 3-4% in your portfolio is not a bad move.
- Dash (DASH): I met the Dash team when I visited the Bitcoin Miami event. I feel Dash has a great future considering they have a really strong team, great marketing, and most importantly, a usable currency. I would suggest that 20-25% of your portfolio is reserved for Dash.
- Dogecoin (DOGE): On a Ledger wallet, you can store Dogecoin as well. I’m not certain about the future of Dogecoin, so my stance is not to buy. If something changes, I will write a post about it.
- Zcash (ZEC): Zcash is a privacy-based cryptocurrency and is loved by many. It’s a decent investment, but I wouldn’t put more than 4% in my portfolio.
- Ripple (XRP): For those who are looking to hold Ripple long term, the Ledger is an ideal choice. They added support in mid-2017, and now, I believe it’s one of the best wallets for holding Ripple.
- Komodo (KMD): Ledger added support for Komodo recently, and Komodo is doing some awesome work. A crypto you should hold for long term.
Update: Now there are more than 5500+ cryptocurrencies/tokens right now supported by Ledger Nano S & Ledger X.

Also, Ethereum tokens (ERC20 tokens) can now be managed using the Ledger Live app.
If you are a long-term HODLer, then my suggestion for you is to buy the Ledger Nano X and put your bitcoins on it. Moreover, if you are in a country where you can buy Dash, ETH, LTC, or other cryptos directly, then you should definitely secure them with a hardware wallet like the Ledger.
And if you don’t have direct access to these altcoins, then you can use Changelly, which is the simplest and fastest way to exchange Bitcoin into other cryptos.
I have used it multiple times and have had no issues with it. You can read about my experience of using Changelly here.
You can order Ledger from the official site using the below link:
I will keep updating this list as Ledger keeps increasing its support for new cryptocurrencies. For now, you should check out the below YouTube playlist from our channel. This will help you to understand how to use the Ledger wallet as well as many important tips and tricks:

Glad to know that.Thanks
hi although not completely relevant to the above comment, but all the same, any news on having a naga wallet on the ledger nano s for ngc tokens?
thanks
@Cameron
I don’t see NGC token integration in Ledger Roadmap for now.
Hey, just fot my Ledger Nano S and did the setup. Easy. I got in touch with a local foundry and will stamp my seed phrase in stainless steel or aluminium over the next few days.
Installed the Google apps Manager, Bitcoin, Ethereum and Ripple on my laptop. A few questions, please:
– In the Manager app there are many more currencies but if I try to add one, I get the message there is no more room on the Ledger Nano S. Can that be the case? Fyi, I have not yet stored any currency on the Nano and i only have 4 currency abilities installed (btc, litecoin, dash and ethereum). If I have, say 10 currencies, should have more Ledger Nano (3 if I assume 4/Nano)? Or should i buy a Ledger Blue?
– What’s the value of those 3 specific currency app (btc, eth and ripple) as opposed to work thru the Manager app?
– Re the Ledger Wallet mobile (Android) app, how do I pair the Ledget wallet with the Nano?
–
The maximum is 4 apps that you can install, but it’s very easy to remove an app and install a new one. And removing an app doesn’t mean you will lose your coins, you can reinstall it later and your coins will still be where you left them. No you don’t need more Nano S or blue if you have one of them.
Manager app lets you manage other specific apps related to different currencies.
In my knowledge, there is no official Ledger Wallet android mobile app and probably the one you are referring to is a scam but there is an android app that lets you authenticate made by ledger. Are you talking about that?
Hi and thanks for your reply. So just to make sure I got this right: let’s assume I have the BTC app on the Nanowith bitcoins on it. I delete it thru the Ledger Manager and install the ETH app, say. I do my stuff with ETH, buy some. I then delete the ETH app thru the Ledger Manager app and re-install the BTC app. I will then be able to access all my BTC currency as before and willl find them again on the Nano, correct? Is that because the Nano doesn’t actually store the currencies but just the addresses to the ledgers of my currencies that exist in the blockchain? Am I understanding this correctly?
The Android app I referred to i as white square with smaller black squares inside it. Does ask me to identify the Nano when I open it. Haven’t yet done so as I am not sure what that app is.
Update: I stamped my seed (24 words) of the Nano on a piece of metal (aluminum). Seems the right way to go. I’ll make a second copy that I will store in a different place. Was quick (about 1 hours).
Yeah, you understood it correctly also keep your seed words safe.
We don’t recommend such stamping of seed because it can expose your seed to unwanted parties.
Android app is the mobile authenticator.
I seems to be the stamping is a pretty good option, though. I mean, what are the alternatives? Paper – no. Saving it in a password manager? In any electronic form it seems there’s higher risk of it being stolen than as physical storage hidden away (let’s assume I will put this metal plate in a bank safe or at my mother’s house, far away).
Horses for causes, I guess, and we’ll each have our way of feeling secure. For now, I find the metal stamping quite reasonable. Will make a backup of it, though, too
Hi dear @SUDHIR,
in the exemple given above, what happens if the person looses the Nano S, will he be able to recover bothe the bitcoins and ethers with just the recovery seed of the Ledger? If yes, and I hope this is the anwser, then I don’t understand how this works, does it means that all wallets on the ledger share the same private key?
Thank you in advance for your response
Yes with seed in your control you can do so…because you seed when put in a valid wallet automatically generates a tress structure of public/private keys that are valid on the blockchain.
This generation happens every time with same hash functions that always generate same hashed output for the same given input. Read more about Hashes here and HD wallets here.
i want to know that if we buy this ledger then we will need crypto exchange ?
as my friend told me that many exchange are fraud and disappeared after sometime?
if ledger is only for securing our keys then which exchange is good and secure?
@Muhamad
No Exchange is safe they all are vulnerable. That’s why you need Ledger to keep your coin on it instead of keeping it on an exchange.
Another exchange alternative is decentralized exchanges which are a thing of future.
Is there any limit on the number of bitcoins or Ethereum a Ledger Nano S wallet can store?
@Gyan
There is no limit.
I want to invest in a lot of new ones like Golem, Universa, etc. Will I be able to store these coins as well?
Not all coins but definitely most of them.
Ledger now supports more coins than ever and here is the latest list.
Also, I will update this post soon with the latest info and Golem you can definitely store.
Hi,
Your link to your list of the supported coins doesn’t work. Is there any other Ledger supported coins list ?
What do you want to do? DO you want to buy these coins?
This is correct, buy first and then store on the Ledger Wallet
Does Ledger Nano S work with iPad Pro?
Where is latest list of coins that Ledger nano S supports?
Here is the list of coins https://www.ledgerwallet.com/cryptocurrencies
When you say Ledger you are referring to the Nano Ledger S correct?
I ordered one and it should be here any day.
Yeah the same we meant.
i would avoid changelly. the fees are outrageous.
What exchange do you recommend. I’m not into obscure currencies.
Bittrex, Binance, Poloniex
Hello
I’m struggling to understand how to transfer altcoin, e.g., EXP from an exchange to Ledger Nano S wallet. The problems mainly arisen due to unclear guidelines on “contract data” and “browser support” in ledger website. Could you please teach us which to be used in those (i.e., yes or no), and then which to select in “browser support” in bitcoin to open EXP?.
This video series on Ledger Nano S should help you.
I have a Ledger Blue Wallet and 1000 xrp in an old ripple beta online Wallet that I can no longer access.
Is there a way to access my ripples with the Private Key that I have?
Nope, you either need access to ripple beat online wallet or its private keys to do that.
Thanks Sudhir.
I managed to get my xrp back by joining Gatehub. They have a Wallet recovery option where you just input your private key and bingo they were there!
I had two failed attempts to transfer them to my Ledger Blue that cost me a small amount of xrp in fees.
I assume that was because I’ve not yet gone through their ID verification process.
Great blog by the way!
@Kevin Thanks
I am planning to buy one thanks to the Black Friday Sale… I’m a long-term Holder anyways and have many of these above coins and will add more of these in the coming months…
I had a couple of questions.
1. I’m guessing when and if I have to switch all back to BTC, I can transfer them from Ledger Nano to Binance and then do my transaction there right? Instead of Changelly… Fees would be lesser I suppose (not counting transaction fees I might lose while transferring) Does Ledger nano have a feature within itself where through a software interface one can use Changelly? Like we can on Coinomi. Would using Binance mean less fees as opposed to Changelly? How does it work…
2.I also have PAY, OMG. They’re in my Coinomi stored under my ETH address (I enabled them on Coinomi via dApps. They’re ERC20, right and, can I hold them in Nano Ledger right? I’ll read the blog you’ve mentioned… But do let me know if you’ve tried it out…
Hello @srinivas
1. No such interface feature in Ledger. It is good that it doesn’t have it I feel so.
2. Yes, you can store ERC 20 comfortably.
Can i store Naga and ETN on my Ledger Nano S ?
no
hi, will Ledger Nano S store BTCRED? thanks
No as of now.
1. I am thinking of buying Eth. I need to create MyEtherWallet (MEW) first before buying. Is there any issue of transferring Eth from MEW to the Ledger?
2. Since the LEdger only allows 4 Apps at one time, is there any way (maybe in the Manager) the Ledger let you know how many types of coins you have stored in the Ledger so you can remember to retrieve later when you are a Holder, as you may forget what you have few years in the future or just for your family in case if you die unexpectedly?
1. No issues
2. You need to do the hard work of remembering them. No app as of now.
Hi,
Apart from coins what Token does Nano S ledger support?
Thanks
hi, nice elucidating articles…..very professorial……can the same Bitcoin ( or other alt CC ) be stored on different multiple wallets
Yes, you can do so…
Consider going through this write-up for more clarity-https://coinsutra.com/how-many-hardware-wallet-to-order/
Hi,
How can I generate a paper wallet from Nano Ledger?
print your public key on a paper which is shown in Ledger.
Now use your Ledger seed to generate private key corresponding to that public address, print this also on the paper.
You have now your paper wallet.
Great article Harsh! Sudhir, I have a question: Is it better to buy and hold bitcoin/Ether or buy altcoins using bitcoin/Ether and hold them for long term to see for more bitcoin/ether when altcoins price shoots up in future?
I don’t see any value in holding bitcoin and ether other than the flexibility to sell them when the price in USD hits its new all time high. But, for someone who is looking to hold all their coins for long term (say 5 years), is it advisable to convert them to altcoins and hold t0 get more bitcoins/ether down the line.
Please advice.
-Harsha
Hey @Harsh
Yeah, that’s true for HOLDING altcoins for 5 years or more in a scenario where you know Bitcoin will not increase in further value as it is now and your relative ratio in which you bought your alts will not diminish with time.
Another way is HODL 50-60% BTC and rests 40% trade smartly when the alts increase in BTC value.
I don’t recommend HOLDIng ETH more than 5% that too should be sold when the relative BTC value in which you bought increases…
hey will you have in the future option to store trx – TRON ?
I would like to know this as-well, as i have invested quite alot in Ripple and Tron.
Any plans on adding Tron (TRX) to your supported currency’s?
TRX is ERC-20 and it is supported by Ledger Wallet.
Will you be adding electroneum at some point? Thanks
Not very sure at this moment!
just stumbled onto your page & thought wow! great info for the newbies into the market
keep up the good work. look forward to more updates….. i’ll definately be following this page from now on
@Faafu Cheers!
The only problem with this video is the same problem with all videos on use of storage wallets. It presumes we are experienced enough to know the details of downloading a wallet. Suppose this is your grandmother and she has no expertise in finding and downloading anything. That is not a beginner, that is Preschool or Kindergarden at best. You lost me before you even instructed which versions to download. You are very adept, and you have NO IDEA what techno idiots, like me, are watching. I need you to go slow slow slow and show us where to download the apps, explain slowly and carefully which apps to download, especially if we have multiple alt coins. I do not even know what the picture of the house below wants me to type?????
I do not even know where to find the answer, do you have a more beginners video? This is too fast and too assuming that I know what I am doing, and have experience.
I have to hold most of my coins/tokens on web wallets
The hardware wallets don’t offer lots of coins
is the any specific reason the ( nano, trez) aren’t able to store all the coins?
I am concerned because holding on an exchange or web wallet is not as safe
Development in hardware wallets takes time. At present Ledger Nano S supports more than 20 currencies along with all ERC tokens.
You can see here what all currencies Trezor and Ledger supporrts.
If I purchase my nano now and set it up with the current selection of altcoins and then down the road they begin to support other currencies like ETN or Verge will that nano be able to support it with software or will I need to purchase the newest hardware version nano?
They will be able to support it with the existing hardware. You need not buy a new one.
Hi Sudhir/Harsh,
Great information…
I am planning to buy Ledger Nano S. But when I visited website they are showing shipping price 53 euros. Total cost is 57 + 53=111 Euros. Is this fine? Or is there any way to have ledger nano s in cheaper price?
Hi, i have BTC EOS and MYB..(mybit) can i store all those on ledger S… not super Wallet savy.. only have a Exodus now but need somewhere to store my MYB…
Yes EOS and MYB are ERC 20 tokens so you can store it on Ledger Nano S and of course, BTC is supported by default.
Hi Sudhir.
How would I go about storing my XRP, VRG, and TRX? I know I can store XRP on a ledger nano s but what about VRG and TRX? Is there a way to do a paper wallet?
Thanks,
Nate
Verge Paper Wallet-https://cyanoxvg.github.io/index.html
Verge Software Wallets-https://vergecurrency.com/#wallets
XRP- Ledger Nano S
TRX- Ledger Nano S as it is an ERC 20 token.
Hope this helps:)
Will Verge be added to the Ledger Nano S in 2018?
@Andrew
There is no such news we have until now.
Hello Harsh/Sudhir,
i own TRX and XRP on Binance. would both of these coins supported by Ledger Nano S? can i store them same time in one Nano S
Yes you can store them XRP is supported and TRX is an ERC20 coin so that is also supported.
Hi 🙂 I listened something about that Cardano will be connection to Ledger. Have you any information about time when It will be done? 🙂 Thanks very much
No ETA. Yeah their CTO said they are working on it.
