If Bitcoin is the undisputed king of cryptocurrencies, then Ethereum is the queen.

This year has especially been promising for the Ethereum cryptocurrency. From the start of the year until this point in time, Ethereum has grown more than 1,800%.

The formation of the EEA, proof-of-stake talks and the ICO madness on the Ethereum platform are the reasons for this quick price rally.

This has made Ether (ETH) a hot cake in the cryptocurrency market, and it is proudly the most promising altcoin out there.

And because of this, you probably want to get ahold of some ETH tokens.

You will probably go and buy some BTCs and get them exchanged via CEX or Binance. This might take a really long time, and you’ll possibly need to wait days for everything to go through.

How To Buy Ether with Credit card?

Buying Ethereum is quite easy today. However, it was not the same in early 2014 because there were almost no exchanges selling Ethereum.

Here is the list of some popular and legit websites that accept credit/debit cards for :

  1. CEX.io (For USA users)
  2. Coinmama
  3. Changelly
  4. Coinbase (For USA, Singapore, UK)

You can now buy Ethereum from several exchanges around the world but the process slightly varies from exchange to exchange. The basic principles, however, remain the same.

  1. Register on an Ethereum selling exchange *Listed below*
  2. Complete KYC/AML checks if any
  3. Chose a method of deposit (Credit cards/Wire transfers/PayPal etc)
  4. Make a deposit (USD/EUR/GBP or BTC)
  5. Buy Ether from your deposited funds

This is normally the lifecycle of purchasing Ethereum in any country around the world. You also don’t worry about AML/KYC requirements because there are many exchanges that don’t require you to do that.

And if you don’t have bank accounts or wire transfer facilities, you can buy Ether directly in exchange for BTC or any other supported currency.

Lastly, the best option, and one that I personally like, is directly configuring your credit/debit cards with the Ether selling services to make transactions.

Now that you understand the basic steps of buying Ethereum, it makes sense in talking about where to go and buy Ethereum. For this, I will be listing a variety of sites/exchanges from which you can buy Ether directly, so stick around and enjoy.

But what’s the point of buying ETH in several days? If you are familiar with the crypto-space, then you might know that waiting too long defeats the whole purpose of buying cryptocurrencies.

But here is a shortcut!!

You need not wait too long for your Ether (ETH) tokens. You can buy Ether (ETH) directly if you have a VISA/MasterCard credit or debit card.

Most cryptocurrency exchanges accept only cryptocurrencies or wire transfers, but as the whole ecosystem has matured, some have also started accepting credit/debit cards.

4 Websites To Buy Ethereum With Credit/Debit Card

1. CEX.io

CEX.io

CEX is a UK-based exchange. It supports buying/selling of BTC and ETH. CEX has earned quite a bit of respect in the cryptocurrency space and has been operating since 2013.

It also supports the instant purchase of Ethereum (ETH) via Visa/MasterCard credit and debit card.

You can buy Ethereum by following these simple steps:

  • Register at CEX.
  • Go to Cards.
  • Configure your credit/debit card.
  • Verify your credit/debit card
  • Select the amount of Ethereum to buy/sell.
  • Exchange your currency for Ethereum.

The card verification might take 24-48 hours, but after that, you can buy ETH instantly. That’s why we recommend you that you keep your card configured in CEX even if you don’t have immediate plans to buy ETH.

Don’t worry, your card details will be safe and secure with CEX.

And if you are doing card verification for the first time, it might look wired to you when you need to take a selfie with your card. So we need to give you a heads up: Just in case you send a low-quality selfie, the Compliance Officer may ask you to upload another selfie with better quality.

Here is a video guide to help you on how to link a credit/debit card on CEX.IO:

For more details about CEX.io, read our step-by-step guide on the CEX.io review post.

This is another quick way of buying ETH. But unlike Coinbase, CEX allows you to buy ETH and BTC anywhere in the world. However, the exchange rates are quite high on this platform.

2. Coinmama

Coinmama is another exchange that lets you buy Ethereum using credit/debit cards. They operate from Slovakia, Europe, and at present, serve in 226 countries.

To check if they provide service in your country, visit here.

Unlike other exchanges, Coinmama doesn’t have an inbuilt BTC/ETH wallet. This means if you wish to purchase ETH from Coinmama, you should already have an Ethereum wallet.

If you don’t have an Ethereum wallet, pick one from our list of Ethereum wallets.

Coinmama provides a bonus feature in comparison to its peers. It lets you buy ETH/BTC without verification through a Level 0 verification system which requires you to only fill in your personal details, including a phone number, address, city, state, and ZIP code. You can buy ETH/BTC up to 150 USD/EUR via a MasterCard/VISA credit or debit card using this feature of Coinmama.

Here is the official step-by-step guide.

If you want to increase your buying limit, you can verify yourself from here, and buy ETH from this link.

However, this all comes with a cost, as the exchange rates are quite expensive on Coinmama.

Coinmama Fee: Simplex, Coinmama’s credit/debit card processor, charges a 5% additional fee (with a minimum cap of 10 USD) on each transaction.

3. Changelly

Changelly is a popular multi-currency exchange. They started supporting buying of BTC/ETH and other cryptocurrencies using a debit/credit.

If you have a VISA/MasterCard debit or credit card, you can instantly sign up for Changelly and buy Ether (ETH).

Changelly announced this feature at the end of 2016. It accepts any currency of any country (EUR/GBP/USD/INR/etc.) and then calculates it in its USD equivalent.

Note: Changelly has purchase restrictions according to each country while buying with credit/debit cards.

Coinbase

Coinbase is a US-based exchange. It is the world’s most popular exchange to buy and sell Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin. They also support the instant purchase of Ethereum (ETH) via Visa/MasterCard credit and debit card.

For this, your credit/debit card should support ‘3D Secure’. To find out if your card supports this, you can just try adding your card to Coinbase and it will give you an error if it doesn’t.

You can instantly buy Ethereum through Coinbase, provided that they serve your country. At present, they only serve 32 countries.

You can check if their service is available in your country here.

If it is, follow these steps:

  4. Click on +Add Payment Method on the right-hand side.
  5. Choose Card and add the credit/debit card.

  7. Coinbase will make two very small test transactions between 1.01 and 1.99 in your local currency. Log in to your card statement account and note the amount of those transactions.
  8. Enter the amounts transacted in the Coinbase app.

You should now see a window that says “Credit/Debit Card Added” and a Buy Digital Currency button.

You can now buy digital currency using the Buy/Sell page anytime via your card.

  5. Trupti

I’m very new to digital coin investment. I live in Canada and I bought Ether coins using Coinbase. What is the next step after buying the Ether coin? How do I know when to sell them? How do sell them?

    1. Harsh Agrawal

      @Trupti
you can sell them using CoinBase only. They also have a platform call GDAX you can check that out as well. Anytime the price goes up and you want to sell you can. Download this app call CoinCap on your phone to monitor the price. Usually I recommend to hold on your coins like ETH for a few months to enjoy more profit.

    1. Sudhir Khatwani

      Try CEX.io
Price will vary in different countries !!

  7. Ph0t0n

Coinbase is having major issues. If you initiate a transaction it will add a 72 hour delay, even for ETH or LTC, which should just take a few seconds. It’s 4+ days for bank transfers. It’s like going back in time to the 1990s when computers and networks were really slow. I would not recommend using Coinbase at this time.

    1. Sudhir Khatwani

Yeah, it is slow because of too many customers joining them and less liquidity.

  8. fabio

Just for info, cex.io currently suspended new registrations , so at the moment it’s impossible to register and buy something.

    1. Sudhir Khatwani

      Yeah, that’s happening everywhere..Can’t help it…
